Dental veneers are thin custom made shells that cover the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. They are made of tooth colored material and can change the size, shape and the colour of your teeth to achieve the smile you want.
Types of veneers
Veneers are made of porcelain or composite resin. The properties of the porcelain material helps create a natural look for your teeth. Also, porcelain veneers are more durable and are stain resistant. On the other hand, composite resin veneers are made of porous materials which make them non-resistant to teeth stains.
When should you consider dental veneers?
Talk to you dentist about dental veneers if:
- Your teeth are stained or discolored
- You have crooked or misshapen teeth
- There are spaces between your teeth
- You have broken or chipped teeth
How it’s done
Most dental clinics require you to have two visits for the procedure of placing veneers. However, we at New Hamburg Dental use advanced technology in milling your veneers in one appointment.
During your visit, we determine if you’re the right candidate for veneers and identify which teeth need them. We prepare your teeth to be fitted with veneers by trimming a portion of the enamel so veneers can be bonded on the surface. We take a digital impression of your teeth and sends it to our milling machine which will craft the veneers. You will not need temporary veneers because we will complete the treatment on the same day.
Once the final veneers are ready, the permanent veneers are set on your teeth to see if they fit well. The fitting and shade of your veneers is adjusted to your satisfaction before we bond them to your teeth. Your veneers are polished and any excess material is removed from your teeth’s surface. We check your bite to ensure your teeth are even after placing veneers.
We make sure that you go out from our clinic with a brand new smile!
